Gestures of movement

Listening becomes movement. Sometimes the movement exists in my mind, a dance of mental what-if’s, a dance of imagination. I use string and thread and fiber as tools of recording - crochet, knotting, looping, and weaving act as gestures of memory. With an intricate history themselves (each of the materials), these recordings come together to form a dialogue, an entanglement of industrial cotton thread, sisal fibers intended for construction insulation, New Zealand Flax from the Sintra forest transformed into string and cordage. The connections are messy, obvious, and fragile. A delicate vessel: a singular seed bag encapsulates the liminal place of existence, as it hangs from a single fiber of sisal. The materials interact to capture my embodied reaction to the sounds – spontaneous, unashamed, listening.
