Artist Statement

Deeply inspired and grounded by the nature around me, my work explores this relationship - and the larger relationship between humans and nature. My sculptural work primarily uses wood and string, I begin with cutting, carving, altering the wood - shaping it to become something else. String is my connecting medium. It joins with the wood, creating a delicate dance of webs and networks. I like to crochet between things, to explore tension, delicate tenderness, and messy, knotty, tangled accidents. The strings creates drawings, movement, structure, and connections. My making is a form of listening, of meditation, of understanding. My practice becomes a form of healing, for myself, and for the larger possibilities of healing the human-earth relationship.
